Beverly Zammit spikkat fuq shabha (li kollha kibu xi punt) fit-team ta’ Hibs, li kellhom lil Alexis Darmanin kif ukoll Francesca Tabone neqsin, meta kisbet xejn anqas minn 35 punt, kollha fl-ewwel tliet perjodi tant li giet imserrha fl-ahhar perjodu.
Hibs added on to their win over Kerygma, in their defence of the league title, as they pummeled Sliema, who were opening their league commitments. Hibs had already beaten Sliema in the Shield, and the scoring improved for both sides in this second game.
The champions had Alexis darmanin out injured, from their Super Cup win over Luxol, and Francesca Tabone was also missing. Sliema included newcomer, Dana McKean, and she obliged with her side's opening hoop, after Beverlee Zammit had personal points at the start of the game, for Hibs. After some Maria Desira free shots, Hibs continued with more personal points from Zammit, including a trey, as they amassed a 19-0 run, before being stopped by a Francesca Farrugia free throw.
In the second quarter the Paolites were all over their opponents again, as they began with a Lucienne Bezzina trey, and thyen went on with a 21-0 run, as Beverlee Zammit exploited Sliema erratic defence. It was only in the last seconds of the session that Sliema halted Hibs' run with a couple of Chanel Galea's free shots, for a 50-5 score at the interval.
After the break, with some of Hibs' bench players on court, the Paolites did not exert so much pressure as before, and Sliema took the occasion to be more adventurous, despite Hibs' obvious superiority. Zammit hiked up her personal tally into the thirties, including another trey, before being rested for the final quarter. The score progressed to 70-15 after three sessions.
There was another change in personnel for Hibs, but this time the scoring was not so prolific at first. Sliema never stopped trying and they were rewarded at the end, sharing the points with their opponents. Hibs' Lucienne Bezzina put in a couple of long assists to Doreen Parnis, who was awarded last season's Player of the Year honour, as the match petered out to the satisfaction of both teams.
Depiro kisbu wkoll it-tieni rebha meta, kif kien mistenni, ghelbu lil Suns 77-20. L-ewwel u l-ahhar perjodu kienu nfluwenzali ferm fil-puntegg finali ghaliex Depiro kisbu skors ta’ 27-1 u 24-0 rispettivament. Kien biss fil-perjodi tan-nofs li Suns irnexxielhom jtellghu ftit il-puntegg taghhom tant li qasmu l-putegi parzjali 14-10 u 12-9. Depiro, li ghalqu l-loghba bi break ta’ 28-0 kellhom bosta punti lejn it-tmiem mill-koppja Sarah Pace u Claire Hawkins.
Depiro strolled through their second league win, and also did the double over Suns, having already beaten them in the Shield. The first session decided everything, as Depiro rocked their opponents, and then they were complacent in the other two sessions, as the Suns displayed fighting qualities, to try and achieve an acceptable result. However they were overwhelmed again in the last session, and were left behind in the final result.
In the first quarter Suns were hit hard, as Depiro went all out for the result. A strong 20-0 run, including a couple of treys by Charlotte Riolo and Greta Zarb, had already established the outcome of the match. Suns could only reply through an Elvira Granata free throw in that session, as Depiro continued to increase their lead.
In the second quarter Depiro's bench players started coming on court, and, before they had time to settle down, Suns had managed to share the game with them, thus also preventing Depiro from adding on to their lead. Suns were then dominated in the latter stages of the session, and a Raquel camenzuli trey helped in a 41-11 lead at the interval.
After the break Depiro began with another Greta Zarb trey, but Suns were nor disheartened, and for the major part of the session they replied to every Depiro hoop, in a low-scoring quarter. Depiro recovered in the last stages, and put in two quick hoops, for a 53-20 score.
In the final session Depiro displayed their good qualities again, and Suns were put under intense pressure once more. Suns suffered points against without any reply, and they were denied for the whole of the session, not for the first time this season.

The Violets recovered with a series of hoops, with mandy Sciortino in the thick of the action. A Psaila Savona trey completed a 10-0 run, and till the end of the quarter Kirsten Micallef also put in another trey. Luxol's lead became more pronounced, on a 53-32 score.
The final quarter was still in Luxol's hands. After a dearth of points at the start, midway through the session Luxol struck again with another three treys, as Micallef took her tally to six, in an 11-0 run.
