Siggiewi Smina 68 Bupa Luxol 61
(18-17)(11-23)(18-11)(21-10)
A grand comeback, late in the match, secured Siggiewi's victory, their third over Luxol this season. Luxol must be kicking themselves, for allowing Siggiewi to creep up and take the spoils. A good halftime lead, and Steve Schembri's hot hands, with a hefty seven treys, weren't enough for them to draw level in the standings. On the other hand the return of Addison Bonnici, David Camilleri's treys and Abraham Portelli's foraging, kept Siggiewi in the hunt, and the result came their way.
Siggiewi recovered Addison Bonnici, and Steve Sammut was back in the side, but Louis Camilleri is still sidelined.
Luxol put in two hoops at the start, but Siggiewi had a good reply. They made a 12-2 run, to move 12-6 in front. Steve Schembri sank a couple of treys for Luxol, but Peter Shoults made one for Siggiewi, as they hels their lead, but only just. Luxol tied the score but Shoults' free shot pushed his side ahead.
The second quarter was a different proposition. After the lead had changed hands twice, it was Luxol who took the upper hand, and as Siggiewi failed their shots, a sound 14-0 run, with two more treys by Steve Schembri, gave the Violets a firm 33-20 lead. Siggiewi made a recovery, starting with a David Camilleri trey, in a 7-2 run. Luxol stopped the break, and till the end of the quarter their free throws opened up their advantage again. At the interval Luxol enjoyed a favourable 40-29 lead.
After the break Siggiewi went out in a determined mood. Addison Bonnici's entry on court bore fruit, and a 10-1 run, with a third Camilleri trey, brought the score down to a single hoop difference. Luxol made some breathing space for themselves, but Siggiewi came back again, as Abraham Portelli was very active. Schembri's trey opened up the lead once more, and after three sessions the Violets were 51-47 ahead.
Schembri was still pouring them in at the start of the last quarter, and two more treys gave Luxol a 59-51 lead. Bonnici kept Siggiewi in the hunt, with his points, but Jid e Jetson's hoop gave Luxol some room. They were the last points that Luxol made, as Siggiewi were all over their opponents in the closing stages. A fine 13-0 run, with a fourth Camilleri trey, buried Luxol, who wilted under Siggiewi's pressure. At the end Luxol had no means to save the game, and now their task in securing a place in the final is practically impossible.

Qormi Kia 54 Floriana 49
(9-9)(15-17)(14-8)(16-15)
Another close match changed the standings again, as Qormi made it two wins out of three matches, against Floriana. The latter were buoyant after their victory over Depiro, but they couldn't make a back to back win, and Qormi took the spoils. They lasted the game better, with Floriana losing three players on fouls, in the last session. Qormi made use of the fast breaks at crucial periods, to take two priceless points, and ease off the bottom rung in the standings.
Qormi had Sam Farrugia missing, whilst Floriana had to do without Don Ross' experience.
There was a quiet start to the match, as Floriana went in front, and put in a long 7-0 run. Qormi took fully seven minutes to make their first hoop, but then they managed to tie the score, with an Antoine Grech trey. Till the end of the quarter Floriana's free throws, and another Qormi basket left both sides on equal terms.
In the second session Floriana went ahead once more, but they were stopped by a Simon Cauchi trey. Qormi completed an 8-2 run, to lead 17-15. Floriana made a good recovery, with an 11-1 runand a Karl Borg trey, before being finally stopped with a Wayne Grixti trey. His team mate, Roberto Formosa, made another one, and the score was a closer one at the interval, at 26-24 for the Greens.
The third session was a disaster for Floriana. They were hit hard by a resurgent Qormi side, who took the game in hand. They built up a strong 12-2 run, to go decisively in front. Floriana rallied at long last, and a Gareth Gilson trey, in a 6-0 run. made it a closer match again. With a session to go Qormi held a 38-34 advantage.
In the last quarter Floriana didn't take long to tie the score, but Qormi made some steals in mid-court, to sink in three hoops in a row. Floriana's lone reply didn't help them much, as Qormi kept on harassing their opponents, to repeat the dose again, with a six point spread. Floriana recovered enough to make an 8-0 run, with a Gilson second trey. Qormi then defused any Floriana hopes of going in front, as they hung on to their lead, and leapfrog over the Greens in the standings.

SN Suns JC 34 Kerygma 59
(7-17)(7-16)(8-9)(12-17)
Kerygma went to the top of the table, although with a game more than Luxol, as they recorded their fourth straight victory over Suns this season. It was a game for some season bests, for two players. Diane Falzon's points were her best yet this season, and Kerygma's Josette Calleja, currently heading the women's 3-point shooters list, enhanced her position with seven treys in this match, the highest in a women's match this season.
Suns made the first hoop, but then had to suffer Kerygma's pressure, as the latter put in a good 13-0 run, with the first Calleja trey. Treys came in from both sides a little later, as Falzon,s trey found an answer in Calleja's second for Kerygma. The latter held a double figure lead after the first quarter.
The second session was pretty much the same, as Kerygma started with a 12-2 run, with treys by Calleja and Lara Cauchi. Suns rallied late in the session, but Kerygma went on into the interval, with another couple of hoops under their belt, for a 33-14 half time lead.
After the break the pace of the agme slowed a little, as Kerygma's scoring rate dropped. It was a balanced session, with Kerygma with the better opening, then Suns had a good run, with a trio of consecutive hoops. Kertgma recovered lete in the quarter, to hold a 42-22 advantage.
In the final session it was Diane Falzon's points for Suns, at first, but then Josette Calleja let loose, and helped Kerygma to a 12-4 run, with four treys in a row. Suns recovered briefly, but it was Kerygma who had the better ending to the match, mostly through free shots.

Depiro 42 Loyola Xuereb Installations 45
(8-8)(11-8)(15-14)(8-15)
The race for a place in the final is still wide open. Hibs are assured of one of the places , but Loyola's win has now brought the other two teams on level terms. It was Loyola's second win over Depiro this season, though the Mtarfa side won four games against Loyola. Depiro were never comfortable in the match, and the exhortations of their coach, Charles Bonnici, didn't have the desired effect, as Loyola, came from behind in the last quarter to clinch victory.
Rachel Camilleri sank a trey for Depiro straight from the start. Loyola's reply was through Schembri Wismayer, as her points put her side in the lead. Near the end of the session Camilleri made a second trey, to put both sides on level terms, after the first quarter.
Depiro were missing the presence of Abigail Sciberras, as Schembri Wismayer pushed Loyola back in the lead in the second session, and this time it was Joselle Cardona's points that tied the score again, at 13-13. Some co-ordinated play put Depiro in front, but Denise Hollier's free throws reduced the arrears. At the break Depiro held a low-score 19-16 lead.
After the interval Depiro held on to their lead, at first. A Greta Zarb trey gave them a 26-20 advantage. Jean Doughty came off the bench for Loyola, and she proved beneficial. as her points tied the match, at28-28. Another Greta Zarb trey put Depiro back in front, and they were 34-30 ahead, afetr three sessions.
Loyola had Schembri Wismayer to help them out in the final quarter. After falling further behind, her points tied the score, at 39-39, and the game remained a low-score one. Sammy Jo Barbara's trey put Loyola infront. Depiro tied the score again, but Doughty's close range hoop gave Loyola the lead. Depiro's efforts proved futile, and Ann Camilleri's free shot closed down the match, with little more than two seconds till full time.

Sliema Wanderers 39 Luxol 69
(13-13)(11-13)(5-24)(10-19)
Luxol jumped again to the top of the standings, with a handsome win over Sliema, their fourth in the season. Luxol found some good opposition in the first two sessions, but after the break Luxol's dominance made the match an easy one for themselves, as Sliema faded away, to suffer their second defeat in this category.
Luxol had some players missing for this match, as Lara Chetcuti and Justine Mangion.
After a quiet start, and both sides had already held a lead, it was Luxol with a 6-2 run, to go 8-6 in front. Sliema were basing on the shooting of Francesca Farrugia and Leanne Sciberras, and overhauled Luxol, to gain a minimal lead. A Psaila Savona trey for the Violets was replied to by Sciberras, as the teams were on equal terms after the first session.
Sliema went in front at the start of the second quarter, and they managed to hold on to their advantage till midway through the session. Luxol rallied with an 8-0 run, started off with Mandy Sciortina, and finished by Emma Moore. Chanel Galea's free thorws reduced Sliema's deficit, and at the interval it was Luxol, at 26-24.
After the break Psaila Savona had a happy time, sinking a trio of hoops, before Sliema could reply, through a brace of baskets. From then on it wa sLuxol all the way, to the end of the quarter, as they built up o long, and strong 18-0 run, broken only by a lone Galea free shot, less than a second from the end of the third quarter, as the Violets were holding a good 50-29 advantage.
In the last quarter Luxol kept on, and it was the turn of Kirsten Micallef, as her points, including two treys in an 8-2 run, enhanced her side's lead. Sliema couldn't quite get back into the game, although they managed to limit their opponents. Psaila Savona found space to put in another trey, as Luxol cruised through to a comfortable win.
